ICHWC is a volunteer team of U.S. leaders who pioneered science-based training, education, and research of health and wellness coaches over the past 15 years. Since 2010, our team has consulted widely, developed a broad consensus, created national standards, and formed a partnership with the National Board of Medical Examiners in May 2016 to launch a National Board Certification for Health & Wellness Coaches in 2017.
The objective of the certification is to provide a minimum standard and measure of foundational competencies: the knowledge, tasks and skills essential to the practice of health and wellness coaching. Eligible individuals can now apply to become a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).
Meet the thought leaders who invested thousands of volunteer hours over the past seven years to collaborate and develop national standards:
- completed best practices process that led to the national board certification examination for health and wellness coaches
- designed and built national standards for training and education of health and wellness coaches
- reviewed, mentored, and approved 50+ health and wellness coach training and education programs
